Let one client’s before-and-after story sell for you

“There is no way I’m doing that again.”
Finance coach Becca Hugh stood at her dark walnut standing desk as she met with her three-person team.
Last July, she’d forced herself to wrangle through the sales copy for a conference they were hosting, second-guessing herself every sentence of the way.
The next morning, she lay blissfully unaware for a few seconds. When she suddenly remembered she had to map out and write even more launch copy today, the dread hit her hard.
When cart close day arrived, she had room for more attendees, but nobody else bought a ticket. Her roster of successful clients, raving testimonials, and decades of experience weren't enough.
“I’m not doing that again,” Becca told her team.
Long story short: She was referred to me and slotted in a 20-minute get-to-know-you call.
Let Your Client’s Experience Sell for You
On our call, Becca and I talked about basing her sales copy on her clients’ perspectives of what they struggled with before her, how she helped them, and how their life/business is different now.
She’d heard of that approach before and it made sense to her. But the cost was $1,000 more than what she’d planned to spend. And she was going to have to spend time answering questions on a form, getting on a kick-off call, and contacting her clients.
Still, the confidence and fresh energy on the call excited Becca and gave her peace. After looking at the proposal, she realized, “The extra $1,000 isn’t enough to be a deal-breaker. And the time I’ll spend on this is nothing compared to doing it myself.”
All she wanted was to sell enough tickets to reach her goal — without the stress of constantly second-guessing her copy.
Decision made.
Becca accepted the proposal, signed the contract, and paid the invoice.
Tickets opened in 12 weeks — and as she knew all too well, the weeks would evaporate pretty fast.
The Easiest Way to Show (would-be) Clients
You’re Perfect for Them
Step One
01
Kickoff:
Form and Call
Right away, Becca booked a one-hour kickoff call with me. In preparation for it, she filled out a form with a few questions that looked like:

Even though she was intimately familiar with her people’s challenges and goals, Becca had to stop and think about how to articulate these things. She felt a little resistant to spending the time on it, but her conference would fall short of attendees if she didn’t, so she carried on and finished the form.
A few days later, we got on our kickoff call to talk for an hour about her launch, offer, and audience, digging deeper into her answers on the form.
Without talking to Becca’s clients about their before-and-after stories of working with her, we’d have to pull from her perspective of their experience. That doesn’t work as well.
On 20-minute phone calls, her clients and I talked about things like,
“What was going on in your world that made you reach out to Becca?” and “Tell me how different your day-to-day life looks now.”
They told me story after story about how much they struggled beforehand, how Becca brought them through, and how their life had changed.

Clients with Me
Step Three

Copy Delivered
When Becca got her sales copy, she was thrilled with how it showed (in their own words) what her clients went through and how much they achieved with her.
As launch day got closer, nervous excitement fluttered in her stomach.
After all, she’d:
-
Spent a few thousand dollars hiring this out
-
A couple hours of time talking to me
-
Put herself out there by asking her clients to get on a phone call with me
At the end of the day, what would the results be?
Becca was Floored by the Response:

Sold!
30%
More Tickets Than Her Goal
As ticket after ticket was bought, Becca’s nervous excitement gave way to excited anticipation. When the launch ended, she’d sold 30% more conference spots than her goal.
One month later, Becca walked on stage and looked out at a room full of eager clients who were no longer a goal on a whiteboard.
They were real people who said “I trust you enough to show up for a whole weekend.” Now they were here, notebooks open and pens at the ready.
Becca took a breath, grabbed the mic, and kicked off the conference.
That’s what the right sales copy can do for you.

“Taylor helped us exceed the goal we set for our early-bird deadline, and we got so much positive feedback from people saying they felt like our emails were written to them personally.
It was so nice to have somebody else that I could trust, who knew what she was doing.
- Sandy Rees, Get Fully Funded

One of my biggest challenges is articulating my specialty in multiple areas without sounding like I am trying to be all things to all people.
Taylor was able to sift through my story and provide clear and focused copy, and still showcase my personality and expertise.
She asked me the kinds of questions that were thought-provoking and required intentional processing on my part. Talking to her was painless.

Super excited to see this out in the world. I just showed it to the team and they’re thrilled too!

Alvaro Berrios, Agency Owner and Ads Manager
My favorite part of working with Taylor is that she gives me back my time. And as an agency owner, time is my most important resource. She handles everything else which is exactly what I need. Not only that, but what she puts together is far more in-depth and engaging than anything I could do. So even if I had time, it would never come out as good. It's the ultimate win-win.

Haley Greene, Email Copywriter and Strategist
Taylor - this is brilliant! I feel excited to buy this and I’m not even in the target audience!
